Domestic Violence & Abuse Training Courses Spring 2017

All courses are suitable for anyone wanting to develop their professional skills and knowledge.

HALF DAY COURSE – £30 – PER PERSON Places are limited so please book early.

Introduction to Domestic Violence and Abuse.

>Understand what domestic abuse is, including its prevalence.

>Describe the signs, effects and impact of domestic abuse on both adults and children.

>Understand the barriers victims face when seeking support.

>Identify and respond to key indicators of risk

>Be more confident to respond effectively and sensitively to victims of domestic abuse

including knowing what options/services are available.

Introduction to ‘Honour Based Violence’, Forced Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation.

>Explore the definition of HBV, Forced Marriage and FGM.

>Describe the signs, effects and impact of HBV, Forced Marriage and FGM on both adults and children.

>Understand the barriers victims face when seeking support

>Identify and respond to key indicators of risk

>Be more confident to respond effectively and sensitively to victims of HBV, Forced Marriage and FGM

including knowing what options/services are available.

Monday May 8th   1.30pm – 5.00pm

Recognizing and Evidencing Coercive Control

>Describe different types and signs of coercive and controlling behaviors.

>Identify how coercive control impacts victims.

>Understand how perpetrators use coercive control to manipulate victims and professionals.

>Identify ways to support victims of coercive control.

>Identify resources and methods to evidence coercive control including implementing effective ways for professionals to respond to and document concerns.

>Define domestic abuse and empower victims to identify and define their own experiences and needs.

>Have a clear understanding of how complex the impact of domestic abuse is.

>Work proactively to ensure that a non-discriminatory service is equally accessible to all victims of domestic abuse.

>Recognise how perpetrators establish and maintain power and control.

>Provide a service which is risk led and responds confidently and consistently to individual needs and risks.

>Be more confident to respond effectively and sensitively to victims including knowing what options/services are available.
